The duo behind Venerari are Kingsley Wallman [ex-corporate lawyer turned gemmologist] and Genevieve Lilley [architect and jewellery designer]. Upon their return to Australia in 2004 after working overseas for more than a decade, the pair decided to ‘reinvent the opal’ – by bringing modern European flair and design to Australian gemstones and jewellery.
Kingsley, whose family has more than 30 years experience in the opal industry, saw Australia’s national gemstone as one that sadly existed only in 19th century designs or in the cheapest tourist souvenir basket. It was this vision that prompted him to found Venerari with Genevieve - creating distinctive, modern designs truly exploiting the colours of Australia's gemstones. Venerari is a member of the Gemmological Association of Australia and the Jewellers Association of Australia.

Venerari opened in Sydney’s beautiful, historic Strand Arcade in October 2004. It soon established a reputation as a unique Australian jeweller with a modern approach to design and a passion for coloured gemstones. Venerari’s jewellery designer (and studio architect), Genevieve Lilley, utilises simple forms with natural gemstones to create genuinely modern jewellery – both architecturally simple and aesthetically sensual.
As word of Venerari spread amongst the design cognoscenti, its discerning clientele quickly grew around the world. Venerari designs demand the best in craftsmanship as well as gemstones and metals. Our jewellers are dedicated, experienced craftsmen who “push the boundaries” to bring Genevieve’s designs into stunning reality.

Genevieve Lilley, architect and lecturer at the University of Sydney, who worked with the renowned English architect, David Chipperfield for seven years before establishing her own architectural practice in London, has designed Venerari’s first studio in the Strand Arcade.
The intimate purple felt interior with its 90+ ceiling lights resembling a starry sky, has all the hallmarks of the luxurious, modern stores Genevieve has worked on for other clients, including Dolce & Gabbana, Phaidon Press, Joseph and Equipment in the UK, USA and Europe. For lovers of modern design, just visiting the studio has become a “must do” whilst in Sydney.
